Top 10 Reasons Dental Care is Important

Top 10 Reasons Dental Care is Important in this Economy

Thinking about delaying your dental care until the economy gets better? Worrying about spending money to visit the dentist for your twice-a-year exam and cleaning? Planning to wait until it really hurts to visit your dentist? Here are the top ten reasons to make an appointment TODAY to help you save money and protect your assets as well as your teeth and your general health.

    1. Routine maintenance is always cheaper than repairing problems. In fact, if you have dental insurance, most dental cleanings and exams cost you nothing since they are covered 100%.
    2. Your dentist will take x-rays to look for problems that you can not see or feel. Just because nothing hurts, or you don't see any holes, doesn't mean that you don't have a dental problem brewing.
    3. If the dentist finds a small cavity, it can be treated now with an inexpensive filling. If you have a small cavity and you ignore it, the cavity will grow, and get more expensive to repair while it grows. A large cavity may require a crown ... or even a root canal AND a crown. Decay only stops spreading when it is removed by a dentist and the space is filled with a dental filling or a crown.
    4. If damage or destruction is severe enough your dentist may not be able to rebuild your teeth - you could lose them, they would need to be extracted. The cost of dentures or partials is much higher than the small outlay for routine cleaning and exams.
    5. Small infections can very quickly become large, dangerous infections. This can result in the loss of several teeth to large painful swellings, and could include a trip to the hospital or even, in severe cases, death.
    6. Prevent or control gum disease by visiting your dentist for regular dental cleanings. Gum disease can increase your chance of many systemic conditions including heart disease, diabetes, low birth weight babies, stroke, and more. So take care of those bleeding gums, loose teeth, red and painful gums, bad breath, or bad taste in your mouth today to help you stay healthy tomorrow.
    7. If you have dentures or partials, the gums and bone underneath them can change over time. This may result in a poorly fitting appliance, and you can develop a fungal infection under the device that can be painful or difficult to treat. Regular dental visits can catch these issues early and minimize or even prevent painful, expensive problems and dangerous disease down the road.
    8. Your dentist will check for oral cancer every time you visit. This is an aggressive form of cancer with a poor survival rate.
    9. Dental pain or a toothache does not bring out the best in anybody's personality. It will continue to get worse, keep you up at night, and cause facial swellings. Dental pain is usually at its worst in the middle of the night, so it is best to treat your toothache as soon as possible. Dental emergencies can not be treated in the emergency room or at urgent care; they need to be treated by a dentist.
    10. People with nice smiles, clean teeth, no bad breath and no dental pain have an easier time finding jobs, interacting with customers and are happier. In this economy, every little bit helps.

Dental problems do not get better, nor go away, without treatment; they just get bigger. More than ever before, it's important to spend a little now to prevent big expenses down the road.

    Teeth Cleaning
Amber was wonderful! I am a very nervous patient with lots of sensitivity issues. She was patient, understanding and very sweet, as well as being incredibly competent in taking care of my cleaning. She has made it comfortable for me to come back again in 3 months for my next cleaning.
